Neil Subin is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Broadbill Investment Partners. Neil is an entrepreneur and investor who has played an influential role in the creation, development, and successful sale of companies specializing in wireless technologies and spectrum. As a lead investor and board member, Neil has helped shape PHAZR’s strategy from an early stage.
Neil was at the forefront in identifying that wireless data would enable telecom companies to meet broadband’s heightened technological demands and his expertise in wireless spectrum led to the insight that millimeter wave spectrum bands would be utilized for broadband access. Consequently, Broadbill, under Neil’s leadership, was an active, early stage investor in two major U.S. millimeter wave spectrum licensees: FiberTower Corporation, a private company that is a leading developer of licensed wide-area millimeter wave service solutions and Straight Path Communications, a publicly-traded company (Ticker: STRP) specializing in maximizing the value of assets such as millimeter bandwidth licenses for 5G networks and Intellectual Property. Neil serves on FiberTower’s board of directors and was instrumental in developing, funding, and executing on the company’s millimeter wave spectrum strategy, including its investment in PHAZR in June 2016. In January 2017, AT&T announced its acquisition of FiberTower for an undisclosed amount, and Straight Path announced its sale to Verizon for $3.1 billion in May 2017.
Prior to focusing on millimeter wave spectrum, Neil played a similar role in other spectrum bands over the last 20 years, including as a both a lead investor and board member of the following companies: Teletrac, Inc., Nucentrix Broadband Networks, Inc., WCS Wireless LLC, CCTV Inc., and Progeny LMS.
Neil serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Alimco Financial Corp., Institutional Financial Markets, Inc., Phosphate Holding Inc., Penn Treaty American Corp., and Centrus Energy Corp. Neil has been involved in the formation of, and has served on official and ad hoc committees of, debt and equity security holders in restructuring of numerous companies including: The Lionel Corporation, The Zale Corporation, Trans World Airlines Inc., Buenos Aires Embotelladora S.A., Leap Wireless International, Washington Mutual Inc., and Federal-Mogul Corporation.
